How often should I sync my data to my phone or tablet?

It really depends on how you want to use it. Keep in mind, the more you sync, the more battery life you use. You can view the last 7 days of your fitness data (except LightTrak data) on your wrist, so we recommend you sync at least once per week. The Brite R450 actually holds 2 weeks of your data in memory, so you could sync even less frequently if you wish.
